Where Form meets Function

Ever struggled with balancing the need for an optimized desig, user friendlynes and good estethics? Look no further! My name is Joey Johansson, and I'm a freelancing Web developer and UX designer with a diploma in both Digital Design for graphical work and userfirendlyness, and Web development (which is my prefered media for implmenting the experience). I've been designing experiences and solutions for smaller companies, bigger companies and even inhouse-companies. Take a look at some of my work below.

Who is Joey Jay

My curiosity about how things work started early with exploring castles and museums as a kid. I was fascinated not just by what people built, but why they built it that way. That same drive to understand systems and improve them led me into design and development. I began with mobile themes, moved to web design for more creative space, and eventually taught myself backend development and database design so I could bring full ideas to life, from concept to deployment. This thinking was perfect for tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons. I was frustrated with outdated, cumbersome tools, so I built my own. A digital platform, complete with dynamic sheets, auto-calculated stats, searchable rules, and even a battle calculator. It made the whole experience smoother and more accessible for my group, especially during the pandemic. The desire to remove friction and make everyday experiences better is what drives me during my work. Even my name reflects it. My birth name is Joacim Johansson, but non-Swedish speakers often struggle with the pronunciation. A friend started calling me Joey, and it just flowed better. During the pandemic, I embraced the change and legally made “Joey” part of my name. Why? Because improving communication is important, even in the smallest of things.

Beyond the Screen

Character design (Personas)

One of my passions is designing characters, not just with a visual drawing but with depth and backstory. Just like when making personas in UX, I begin by understanding the character. What choice in life did it make to end up in this image? I aim to leave subtle hints about their past in the image itself, from the clothes and accessories to potential body markings. Every detail has a story to tell.

Web tools building (Programming)

As I mentioned earlier, I am motivated to enhance the daily lives of people. Rather than spending hours or weeks on an entire website, I prefer to create smaller, individualised tools tailored to specific roles. My goal is to improve efficiency in any way possible, whether that involves a tool for transmitting information between different systems, performing calculations for various purposes, or even automations. Present me with a problem, and I will provide a solution.

Story writing (Presentation technique)

From an early age, I discovered a passion for storytelling. Just like my desire to understand the structural choices behind castles and art, I became curious about how tone and pacing could guide an audience. In my work, I apply the same narrative techniques during client presentations, where I use clarity, energy, and occasional light moments to keep it human. This keeps people engaged, makes the material memorable, and ensures the focus stays on what matters most.

Latest Work

AEC - Revit model viewer

Utilizing C#, I built and designed an online-based model viewer for Revit models. This site allows users to upload their models from Revit and create a 3D copy with tools available on the go. It includes advanced filters and features for a deconstructed view and Statistics of the types of families in the model, to mention but a few.

Cadium Icons

AEC felt that their icons for Cadium had too many variations in their design and asked me to help out. I then sat down with the Program Owner, who desired a simplistic design, but not purely outlined. He'd rather see a good mix of colors in the design, but with a look and feel of coherency. The result became the image above, which is still in production today.

U.I Webb (W.I.P)

Setting up a new site and designing it can be a real hassle even for inexperienced developers. You always have to switch between testing the website back to the editor to make adjustments, retest it, and so on. But, what if you didn't ever need to leave the webb? Utilizing meta-programming, I'm experimenting with a site that may build itself with minimal setup.

Design Work

Company Branding - AEC

As AEC went through its reprofiling process. I was setting up new desktop backgrounds for the office’s laptops to help promote the four products of the time. Cadium by AEC, Climate by AEC, Infra by AEC, and Plus by AEC.

About dialog - by AEC

While unifying the design, look, and feel of each AEC product, I helped design the new About dialog for their programs, complete with useful information for both clients and developers alike. Among this information is the details about the mail function.

ConstructIQ - UI

This would allow an AI to design based on a chat prompt. I was tasked with designing an interface based on the logo (the head). As the logo consisted of various extremes of blue, the result became a mixture of various blue tones with good contrast.

Code Work

C# -> JS - Internal tool

AEC encountered a problem with the design of their IFC and DFS validator. The validator would return results in an HTML file, but they needed more data to be injected into it. Leveraging my knowledge of JS and C#, I built an injector with C# code that translated the commands to JSand applied them to the HTML file.

Azure template for Savoir

To speed up the creation of AEC's savoir sites, I designed a simple template that allowed the creation with just a few clicks. Instead of manually filling out each spec for the Ubuntu VMs, I could then reduce the time of the site creation from a day to within an hour.

Documentation syncer

The IT department needed documentation from the developers, but they were using different systems. Using a mixture of API calls from DevOps and IT Glue, I was able to create a live sync program that would, at the end of the work day, check for any new changes and then sync the changes between the two systems.

Previous Employment

AEC (2022 - 2025)

Working mainly in C#, I was building plugins for Autodesk Revit, making Blazor sites with swagger documentation, and managing their Savoir service using XMLRPC, Postman, Docker, MySQL, and PHP. Through Linux VM and Azure

Plejd (2022)

Working with MERN and the Headless CMS Squidex in an MVC environment, I managed the company website, adding APIs for YouTube, Recruiter, and Slack. Even helped set up a bot to validate and send out reminders to employees who hadn't filed their time plan at the end of the month.

Gothia Towers (2018-2019)

Helping design the new site and improving user experience. Using jQuery, I could implement design and functionality that their back-end team didn't have time to implement. Working in WordPress and Figma, I help restructure the messy menus and confusing navigation of their Spa sites, among other sites.
